Privacy and cookie policy

1. Summary
Your audio and video files and your transcripts are never sent to any server. They are processed inside your browser, on your own device. We have no user accounts, forms or databases, so we do not directly collect personal data. The only data that may be processed is the technical data inherent to visiting any website (such as your IP address) by the providers listed below, and advertising cookies when ads are enabled.

3. What happens to your files
When you choose a file or record with the microphone, the audio is read into your browser's memory and processed by a speech recognition model running on your device. Neither the audio nor the resulting text is transmitted to us or to third parties. Microphone permission is only requested if you click “Record with microphone”.
4. Providers involved in loading the page
- Hosting: GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.), which may log technical access data for security.
- Tool code: the jsDelivr content delivery network, which serves the open-source Transformers.js (speech recognition) and Mediabunny (video reading and writing) libraries and, only if you tick “Follow the face” in the captions tool, MediaPipe (Google’s face detector; the model is served by this site and frames are analysed on your device). MediaPipe tries to send anonymous library usage statistics (not your video) to Google: the site blocks that request.
- Speech model: the public Hugging Face model hub, which serves the Whisper model on first use.
- Advertising (only when enabled): Google AdSense. See section 6.
- Visit statistics (only when enabled): GoatCounter, a visit counter that uses no cookies and does not identify people. It receives the page visited, the referring site, browser and OS type, screen size and country (derived from the IP address, which is not stored), and only shows us totals.
- Visit statistics: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which also uses no cookies and does not identify people. It receives the page visited, the referring site, browser type and page-load performance data, and only shows us totals.
5. Browser storage
The speech model is kept in your browser cache so it isn't downloaded on every visit, and your chosen audio language and quality are stored in localStorage. Neither contains personal data, and you can clear both from your browser settings.
6. Advertising and third-party cookies
This site is supported by Google AdSense. When ads are enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies or other identifiers to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure their performance. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings or at aboutads.info. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will see a consent message, managed by a Google-certified consent platform, before any advertising cookies are used. With ads disabled, this site uses no cookies.
6b. Affiliate links and payments
Some result screens may show affiliate links, always labelled as such. You only visit that company's site if you click them, and we send it no data about you or your files. Your caption style settings (and, with Pro, your licence key, brand kit and font) are stored only in your browser's localStorage. See how we make money.
7. Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability by writing to victorvisuals.vv@gmail.com, and you may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
